The Department’s mission is to protect, maintain and improve the fish, game, and aquatic plant resources of the state. The Department must manage use and development in the best interest of the economy and the well-being of the people. This must remain consistent with the sustained yield principle. The Department manages approximately 750 active fisheries, 26 game management units, and 32 special areas. Staff work to foster the highest standards of scientific integrity and promote innovative sustainable fish and wildlife management programs. This is to optimize public uses and economic benefits. From making policy and management decisions to providing education and outreach programs, interacting with and involving the public is vital to the mission and goals. The Department is excited to continue working with local nonprofit partners.

Alaska Wild Sheep Foundation

The mission of the Alaska Wild Sheep Foundation is to enhance wild sheep populations and promote scientific wildlife management. The Foundation also is passionate about educating the public on wild sheep, and protecting and enhancing sheep hunting and viewing. Their vision is for Dall’s sheep to occupy their current and historic ranges in Alaska at or near the carrying capacity of the habitat.

The Alaska Outdoor Council is dedicated to the preservation of outdoor pursuits in Alaska. This includes hunting, fishing, trapping, and public access-and conservation of the habitats upon which they depend. Their vision is to unite the voices of their membership and member clubs to effectively represent their outdoor interests in all facets of public policy.

The Alaska Trappers Association endeavors to preserve and promote trapping through trapper education and public awareness. Their philosophy is to share knowledge that fosters responsible trappers and improves public understanding of trapping.

The Kenai Peninsula Chapter of Safari Club International is dedicated to protecting the freedom to hunt and promote wildlife conservation. They pledge to encourage good fellowship among those who hunt, to act in protecting our hunting heritage, and to educate the public to the vital role of hunters in conservation.

The Alaska Professional Hunters Association is dedicated to the conservation of our wildlife resources. The group leads in guarding the continual flow of regulatory restrictions on hunting and public land access being attempted by anti sport-hunting groups or government agencies.

Outdoor Heritage Foundation of Alaska

The Outdoor Heritage Foundation of Alaska promotes the conservation and wise use of Alaska’s natural resources through broad-based education initiatives. These are designed to provide Alaskans the skills and knowledge to enjoy the outdoors in a safe, responsible manner. The provision of which is primarily focused on scientific management of fish and wildlife and their habitats under the prescriptions of the North American Model.

Alaskan Bowhunters Association

The Alaskan Bowhunters Association aims to foster, promote and perpetuate the sport of hunting with the bow and arrow. They aim to cooperate with all conservation and archery organizations in securing and maintaining better hunter privilege and conditions for all bowhunters. Further, they practice the wise use of our natural resources, the conservation of our wild game and the conservation of the natural habitat thereof.
